1968 Gibson Trini Lopez Custom Deluxe, Sunburst + OHSC

Very cool and rarely seen example of on of the more outlandish Gibson designs of the sixties, the wonderful Trini Lopez Deluxe. Part of the Artist series of Signature guitars alongside models for Johnny Smith, Barney Kessel and Tal Farlow.
The Trini Lopez Deluxe was accompanied by the Trini Lopez Standard with both models quite different in design whilst sharing certain features: the Firebird-style headstock, split diamond neck inlays, Trini Lopez emblem tailpiece and bound diamond sound holes. Released in 1964 a total of 335 Trini Lopez Deluxe shipped before the model was discontinued in 1971. Featuring a large 17 inch body that shares the same deep double cutaway silhouette as the Barney Kessel Regular that Lopez used himself in the early sixties. A Mahogany neck with Firebird style headstock with a six-on-a-side tuners. The Ebony fingerboard has split Diamond position markers, a detail that is continued with the Diamond F-holes. Appointments include a bound body. neck and headstock, a trapeze tailpiece with raised diamond and Trini Lopez wooden insert.
Electronically the Lopez Deluxe is traditionally Gibson with the exception of the additional three-way standby switch on the bass bout. This guitar has typical features for 1968, with chrome-plated hardware, enclosed single unit Grover Roto-Matic tuners, the amp-style black moulded knobs have been replaced for the earlier style black reflector type. Internally complete, the pickups are the original Gibson Pat. No. And the pots are still within their protective cans. The guitar is in great shape with little fading to the vibrant Sunburst finish. The original pickguard has gone the way of so many celluloid pickguards and is missing but there is no marking or damage to the guitar top. The neck is a fast feeling late sixties profile that oddly works well with such a big guitar. Nut width is 40mm with the tapering neck measuring 20.1mm at the 1st fret and increasing to 24.3mm at the 12th. Pickups measure a balanced 7.05k and 7.02k in the neck and bridge position measured form the input jack. These seldom come up in the UK, an unmistakable, rare Gibson that sounds and plays great. The guitar comes with a period Case.
